How We Customized an Industrial Pipe Wall Shelf with Jute Rope

A Simple Idea with Custom Details
A customer came to us looking for a customized industrial pipe wall shelf for use in bathrooms, bedrooms and living spaces.
Although the basic structure combines a wooden shelf with industrial pipe fittings, the customer wanted several details that were different from standard products.
The project focused on three key customizations: a grooved wooden shelf, jute rope wrapping and electrophoretic coating for the metal components.

1. Custom Groove in the Wooden Board
Instead of using a standard flat shelf, the customer requested a groove machined directly into the wooden board.
The groove adds extra functionality while keeping the product simple and compact. Its position, width and depth can be adjusted according to the customer's product design.
This is a small modification, but it turns a standard wooden shelf into a more distinctive custom product.
2. Jute Rope Wrapped Around the Pipe
Another important detail was the lower pipe section.
Instead of leaving the entire pipe exposed, we wrapped the designated section with natural jute rope.
The combination of:

creates a warmer rustic-industrial appearance and makes the product suitable for bathrooms, bedrooms, living rooms and other interior spaces.
3. Electrophoretic Coating for the Pipe Fittings
The customer also had requirements for the finish of the metal components.
We used electrophoretic coating (e-coating) on the pipe fittings to achieve a consistent black finish and improve surface protection.
Rather than treating the wooden board, pipe fittings and rope as separate items, we considered the appearance and fit of the entire product during development.

This project did not require a completely new structure. The real value came from modifying several important details around the customer's idea.
